Learning In Memory

As you may be aware, the second yahrzeit of our eight dear friends (30 Shevat 5770, Feb 13-14, 2010) is fast approaching. This page features suggestions of what Torah and Mitzvot people can do in their memory. A bookmark reminder that can be printed out is available below.

Please click here to download a bookmark reminder which has the full names and brief bio's of the eight boys.

Eight Candles

In co-ordination with their families, we have compiled a list of suggested learning topics with something specific for each of the eight boys:

Neriya Cohen: Neriya's family has asked that people learn any section of Torah they like in his memory, as Neriya was well versed and enjoyed learning many different topics and sugiyot throughout the entire Torah.

Segev Avichail: Segev's family has asked that people learn a section of one of Segev's favourite sefarim: Kuzari, Mesilat Yesharim, Shev Shamtata, or Minchat Chinuch.

Yonatan Yitzchak Eldar: Yonatan's family has asked the people learn a section of Halchacha in his memory, in particular "Pninei Halacha" by Rav Melamed or any section of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch.

Avraham David Moses: Avraham David's family has asked that people learn either Masechet Megillah (Avraham David and his chavruta Segev Avichail were learning Daf ז in the library) or a section of Shmirat Halashon in his memory; as well as committing to work on their avoidance of Lashon Hara, evil speech. In addition the family has suggested that people read an article by Rav Shagar z"tl on 'Mourning and Comfort' that is available here in English.

Yochai Lipshitz: Yochai's family has asked that people learn Masechet Menachot (which Yochai was studying in the library) or any section of Daf Yomi, something that Yochai committed to do from a very young age.

Roei Roth: Roei's family has asked that people commit to working on their Tefillah in his memory. They would also appreciate if people would learn an incredible sefer called 'Berumo shel Olam - Making the most of prayer' by Rav Mordechai Potash which is available in Hebrew and English. We hope to have a chapter available for download soon. It can also be ordered online.

Yonadav Hirshfeld: Yonadav's family has requested that people learn Baba Kamma (one of the last tractates of Gemara Yonadav completed), any part of Mishnayot (as Yonadav used to complete the Shas Mishnayot each month) or to learn a maamar on Simchah, happiness.

Doron Maharate: Doron was known for his incredible self-control, never getting angry in any situation. He was also a role model for the entire Yeshiva in his Ahavat Yisrael. It would be very suitable for people learning in his memory to study one or both of these topics.
